What guitar is good for playing various genres of music? What about strings?

I am a beginner and know very little about of trademarks. I've been practicing on an acoustic for a while. I play artists like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and even guitar rhythms of Michael Jackson. Genres I like play are funk, grunge, and metal. WHAT IS GOOD FOR variety!?

I have an Epiphone SG, and it is impressive. I play everything from Pink Floyd to AC / DC. Their reality is not that expensive, making approximately 350. Gretsch guitars are good, but the guitar, the person before me suggested is $ 2500.
