Do you have to learn guitar in a string of 12 Henderson learning in a chain of 6?

Will learning a string acoustic guitar in my 12 odd how to play? I have my first guitar (his name is Charolette for anyone who cares) its a 12-string acoustic. I'm teaching my self from a book and I was wondering if learning to play in a 12 before a string of six negative effect on my quest to become a hero jukebox.
