What is the best guitar setup?

Marshell mg 250dfx a 100 watt amp with a 2×12 DigiTech rp 250 multi-effects pedal. or line 6 Spider 3 1×12 75 watt amplifier?

The 2×12, by a long shot. I'm not a big fan of Line 6 Spider 3 … are stronger than Spider 2, but that's it, no real benefit or improvement in sound. The onboard fx are limited, not very configurable, and it really does not sound so good compared to independent multifx similar or individual pedals. The models I've seen do not even have an effects loop! How about volume? 2 x 12 "will be much stronger than one. You can live with the 2×12, but probably not with the 1×12 … did not turn off the sound enough in enough different directions to fill a room really and do not push as much air as a 2×12 or 4×12. More speakers really makes a huge difference. More watts is both good and bad. 100 watts is too much for gigging and technically most practices, but if the options are just what I have listed, then it is what I would go with. More watts means you may get louder in general, but it does mean that you have to climb higher to get that crunchy sweet "crank" sound. That's the downside of the 150 + watt amp … to sound good, you have to turn * * a volume too loud for recording or playing live reasonably uniform. As for the basic tone, the MG wins hands down. Marshall standards, and MG series has a solid swing Marshall sound for them. Sure, it's not a tube amp, but neither is the Spider III series, realistically speaking, and that the tone of the series Spider comes from DSP (digital chip) rather than the tubes themselves. Color tubes contribute and earn so little they really are not much better than lights Christmas. It's tragic. Good power stage, which is why they are so bloody loud, but does not offset the strong tone of shit, it just means the rest of us must suffer all that much more …. If that's the market you're in for, see if you can find one of the new crate tube amp combo … are 33 Watt 2×12 combo for less than $ 300 … no fx or anything, but I hear the tone is pretty decent. Tube watts will be louder than solid state watts, I would perfectly comfortable gigging with one of those, it will be as strong as the Marshall. Saul
