Can anyone point me in the right direction for some burning software?

Do I need to splash out all my money in Cubase Studio 5 or there are better programs? It seems likely want VST support, and instant messaging using a MIDI interface for my drums and I would like to access a large amount of kit sounds but it seems i wont really need to use more. I have a Line 6 POD for my guitar and bass sounds and perfect sound comes from my nt1 Roland – A. Can anyone point me in the right direction for a recording program / programs. Audacity does not have the support midi or access to any different kit sounds midi drums.
